Practice Bunker
6:31 AM | Edit Post
Practice Bunker prior to reconditioning, as you can see face of the bunker is deteriorating and bunker floor is too deep for members to see there practice shots react on the green. |
Sod has been stripped and the compact track loader is being used to to do a little re-shaping to improve the practice bunker to benefit Harmony Landings members bunker play. |
Zoysia sod being installed. |
Rough sod was installed between the bunker and the chipping green, this area was installed so members can practice close chip shots to the green that imitate shots experienced on the golf course. |

Native Areas

The former dump site on #7 will be seeded next week with Aurora Gold fine fescue, I have posted photos of mature stands. Aurora like all fine fescues will be slow to establish and the plants will not produce seed heads until the second full year after it has germinated.

With mother nature providing us great golfing weather the ground staff continues to work hard to provide the best playing conditions of the year at Harmony. The ground staff continues to make adjustments every day on the greens. This week the grounds staff brushed and mowed against the grain on the greens which will provide an excellent putting surface.

Renovation Update
1:25 PM | Edit Post
As week three of the project has come to a close tremendous progress has been made. The project is at the half way point and holes; 17,18,12,7,9 remain to be finished.
With #9 taking shape all of the earth work is wrapping up and coming to end, the bunker face has been sodded in Zoysia and the surrounds will be Turf Type Tall Fescue once completed.
#14 has been rolled and mowed and fertilized for a second time and is shaping up nicely. The ground staff will continue on a very aggressive agronomic program to get the newly sodded fairways ready for play August.
#2 green continues to heal and take shape, this is a very crucial time for the newly sodded bentgrass to get some extra TLC to make it through the heat of the summer with no root system development until soil temperatures cool down. The rough sod around the green has been fertilized with an organic fertilizer to help it root and recover.I have included a video of McDonald & Son's installing sod during the project below.

Renovation Update

With the first week of the renovation complete the amount of work that has been done is fantastic. 24 trucks of sod have been installed, all shaping work for #2 Green, 10 Tees, 1 Tee, 5 Tee and 9 bunker have been completed.
In this photo all expansion work has been completed and bunker on the left has been installed and entire green complex has been sodded. The large practice green was utilized for # 2 Green expansion, the area of sod that was used will be seeded this upcoming week. Thursday of this week the bunkers will also be complete and sand will be installed to finish the construction process.
Native between #1/#10 is being used as dump site for sod being stripped off fairways. It also allows the contractor to stock pile top soil that has been used to construct new forward tees.
Here you can see our contractor installing the new Zoyzia sod to # 14. I will try to get a video up next week of the sod installation.
Here on the Zoysia Sod on #14 fairway you can see that roots have begun to form which is a great sign after 3 days. As always if you would like to have a guided tour of the renovation work please do not hesitate to contact Mike or myself.
In this photo all sod has been cut around the green complex and the bunker on the left is starting to take shape. The bunker on the right will be removed and regraded to match current slope.
Members of the ground staff John Hunter and Shawn Moore are incorporating sand into the native soil to match our existing greens topdressing layer. This method is being used instead of coring out green expansion and adding a USGA greens mix. I believe that by matching exsisting soils on the green it will be able to be managed consistently across the putting surface and not retain more water in expanded areas if coring method was used.

Equipment Arriving
1:43 PM | Edit Post
With the fairway project starting on Monday the 27th McDonald & Son's has started to stage their equipment on property.
The skid steers will be used to load sod into the dump vehicles to be hauled to the designated dump sites.
During the project the club has elected to manage the sod aspect to save on overall cost of the project. Within those responsibilities Harmony Landing Country Club will be utilizing this backhoe to unload the tractor trailer loads of sod. The trucks will be loaded in a matter to where both forks can be utilized, and unload two rolls of sod instead of the traditional one roll. This will cut down the unloading time in half so the sod can be laid on the ground in a quicker time frame.
